ANNE FIELD
Chair, Illustration; Art Center College of Design
Ann Field joined Art Center in 2004 as Chair of the Illustration Department. Since joining Art Center, Ms. Field has re-imagined the curriculum—referred to as the “new eye”—and created distinct tracks of learning, including Entertainment Arts, Entertainment Design, Fine Art Painting, Illustration Design and Motion Arts.
“Illustration fulfills a central role in modern visual communication,” said Field. “With the rapid advancement of technology, new and greater opportunities have been created for the illustrator willing to accept the challenge of mastering both technical and entrepreneurial skills.”
Ms. Field has owned her own business for more than 20 years, Ann Field Images, which has been synonymous with award-winning imagery that crosses the disciplines between design, photography and illustration. Her company has worked on diverse campaigns such as Nike, Goddess stores, Lexus, Levi’s, Barney’s New York, Target retail stores, Mattel and Starbucks coffee. Her work has been an integral part of design solutions in hotel interiors, restaurants and exhibition spaces. She has worked for the London Evening Standard newspaper, Mademoiselle and Italian Vogue magazine. Prior to that, Ms. Field taught at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and has also lectured extensively across the nation. She is also the co-author of three books published by Chronicle.
Ms. Field is an appointed member of the Advisory Board of AIGA Los Angeles where she is chairing an outreach program in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. She is a gold medal winner, an exhibited member of the Society of Illustrators in New York, and currently serves as advisor to ICON, the Illustration Conference. In 2000, the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, New York added her work to its permanent collection. Ms. Field graduated from Brighton College of Art in Sussex, England.
