ALEX LAURANT
Art Director
Alex began his career as an editorial print illustrator and graphic designer. He later crossed from traditional to digital media, spending more than four years with a small start-up creating interactive, animated educational CD-ROMs as part of the burgeoning “multimedia”wave of the 1990’s.
From 1996 to 2004 Alex was a Sr. Visual Effects Art Director and Concept Artist at Industrial Light & Magic and worked on numerous feature films and TV commercials including “Saving Private Ryan,” “Star Wars,” “The Mummy,” “Minority Report,” “Peter Pan” and “The Day After Tomorrow.”
Alex was co-nominated (along with Production Designer Alex McDowell) for Best Visual Effects Art Direction by the Visual Effects Society for his work on “Minority Report.”
In 2004 he relocated with his family to work in London as a Sr. Art Director at Electronic Arts’ UK Studio applying his art and film design experience to the interactive arena of games. While there he worked on the fourth “Harry Potter” game while also developing several internal “new I.P.” concepts and consulting with a German EA partner studio, Crytek on the just-released PC game, Crysis.
After returning to the U.S. over a year ago Alex rejoined Lucasfilm, this time as an Art Director for LucasArts, working on both story and visual development for a new, internally developed next-gen console game.
He has given numerous lectures and workshops on digital media and visual effects design and technique and has been featured in various related articles and interviews.
